Why I Love Mondays

Why I Love Mondays… and You Should Too

Happy Monday

I already know you’re thinking I’m crazy for trying to turn Monday into a good thing. I bet you even clicked on this post to prove me wrong. You’re thinking there’s no way I can convince you to like Mondays. Well, you may be right… but I’m definitely going to try.

I guess I’ll start with a story…

Once upon a time, not long ago, there was a little girl. She was having a tough time at home. Her parents were fighting a lot, and she lived in fear of moving yet again. The only time she was happy and felt like she had a purpose was when she was in school. Weekends were terrible, but she could always look forward to Monday. She’d learn something new, and see her friends, and be a normal kid again.

Monday was her favorite day of the week

because everything was better, and it meant 5 whole days of better. One day the little girl’s teacher was out on a Monday, and she had a substitute. This didn’t happen often, but when it did, the little girl welcomed meeting a new adult that would teach her and treat her kindly. The girl walked up to introduce herself to her new teacher on her favorite day of the week. With a big smile, she said, “Happy Monday, I’m Kara.” The response, “Ha, kid, there is nothing happy about a Monday.” The teacher looked away, rolling her eyes, and ignored the little girl for the rest of the day. She successfully made this one Monday a not so happy one for the girl. It was just another day where she was ignored and unimportant…

If I were that little girl, would you still think I was crazy for loving Mondays? Probably not, but if so, you should stop reading now, this post is not for you…

Now, let me tell you why I love Mondays. Like the little girl, I see Mondays as a fresh start. Not because I’m trying to escape from my home life but because we all need to start fresh from time to time. As a teacher, I loved Mondays at work. It was usually the day I introduced new concepts that we would explore deeper throughout the week. It was the day I wiped the slate clean for my students, and they tried once again to earn special treats and activities for Friday. It was the day I felt most refreshed and eager to make a difference. It was also the day I got to see all those sweet faces again after missing them for two whole days. Mondays indeed became my happy place. Crazy, I know, but I had a new perspective on the start of the week.

And it’s ALL about perspective…

When I told you the little girl’s story, you had a new perspective on Monday. Likely, at some point in your life, you have been the teacher in this scenario. I know I have, just maybe not towards a kid but definitely with a co-worker or friend. I’ve had many people be that person to me. Telling me it’s not normal to be so “happy” all the time. Not knowing that I was smiling through the pain and just hoping that if I did it enough, I’d really feel it. So I’m tasking you to look at life from a different perspective. Find the good in the most hated day of the week, and you can find the good in anything. And don’t worry, I’ll help you get there. Every Monday morning, I’ll provide you with something positive to start your week. It could be funny, inspirational, or just entertaining, but whatever it is, it will brighten your day. Then you can start the week feeling like you can tackle anything. So, until next time… Happy Monday!
